O'FALLON, Missouri - On January 23, 2022, two officers with the O'Fallon Police Department responded to a call for a suspicious, unlicensed and heavily damaged vehicle.

According to Capt. David Tiefenbrunn, the commander for the Bureau of Criminal Investigation, the first officer smashed the driver's side window after "observing the occupants to be in possession of a firearm." The driver of the car then backed the car into a patrol vehicle and drives away.
The two officers fired a total of 15 shots at the people inside the car as they were driving away.

Ballistics revealed the driver, 17-year-old Christopher Jones, was fatally shot in the back and the head. The passenger was uninjured. The driver was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. Police said that a gun was located on the floorboard of the car.

No charges were filed against the officers.
