The painter worked exclusively as a landscape painter. Thanks to the highest artisanship, Klever's paintings were in demand by customers. His landscapes were a collector's item already at the turn of the 19th-20th centuries. Members of the imperial families and wealthy citizens were buying his paintings. The famous collector Pavel Tretyakov for his collection acquired several of the artist’s works.
According to memoirs of the famous art critic Alexander Benois, every rich person in Russia at that time had paintings by Julius Klever in his house.
The artist was the favorite painter of the imperial family. Numerous works of von Klever were sold in thousands of reproductions throughout the country. His paintings were reproduced on caskets and brooches. Professionals and amateurs were copied and forged his canvases.
