On June 27, 2022 at approximately 12:30 am, multiple officers from the Akron, Ohio Police Department fired over 90 bullets at Jayland Walker, 25, striking him 60 to 80 times according to the county coroner. Police report Mr. Walker firing his weapon while fleeing from police at speeds over 80mph. Wearing a ski mask, Mr. Walker exited his vehicle and ran from police. Bodycam footage shows the events preceding the shooting that resulted in Walker's death. Akron Police confirm later they recovered a gun and bullet casings inside Walker's 2005 Silver Buick sedan. Police reports confirm the left tail light on Walker's vehicle, which he used as a DoorDash driver, was inoperative. 8 officers involved in the shooting have been placed on paid administrative leave pending the conclusion of the investigation from the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation, according to Akron police.
