Irish poet ERIC BEATTY was born in Edinburgh in 1947 and grew up in Dublin. College educated, he sailed in the French, British, Danish and Swedish merchant navies. he worked in Europe, Algeria, the Ivory Coast and Thailand --where he taught English in a Buddhist monastery before returning to Dublin to reside.
