Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3 No-Death Playthrough (Game Boy Player Capture) - Rice Beach

This is part 1 of my 100% playthrough of Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3 for the Game Boy. This is not an emulator. This footage was recorded directly from my GameCube using my Game Boy Player with progressive scan mode enabled (you'll need the GameCube's component cables to do this and your model of GameCube must support component out as well).

In my prior playthrough of this game I died once and only obtained the second-best ending, so I decided to record a new no-death playthrough while obtaining the best ending. In order to obtain the best ending, you need to beat all 40 courses, collect all 15 treasures, and finish with a grand total of 99,999 coins. However, since the treasures themselves are converted into coins at the end of the game, you really only need to collect 9,600 coins (and all 15 treasures) before beating the final boss to reach the maximum coin total.

In order to collect this many coins without repeating levels, I will be using a cheat code that can be entered during a stage to alter my coin total (pause the game, press select 16 times, and hold the A and B buttons to move the cursor on the status bar). I used this code a bunch as a kid (thanks, Nintendo Power) and it not only allows you to alter your coin total, but your lives and even your power-ups as well. I’ll only be altering my coin total on some stages to reach 9,600 coins though.

The original Wario Land is one of my favorite Game Boy games. I think I received my copy for Christmas of 1994 along with the first Super Mario Land game, and I constantly played this game on road trips or when I visited family members. It is endlessly replayable, and I think it’s even better than Super Mario Land 2. Wario Land has some great level designs such as the Thwomp and lava chase stages, and my all-time favorites, the train stages.

There are multiple hidden stages and even an entire hidden world (Sherbet Land), so I’ll be unlocking and completing all of those stages in this playthrough. This game isn’t terribly difficult, but it is harder than Super Mario Land 2, and some of the treasures are hidden really well, so much so that I couldn’t find all of them as a kid. Unfortunately, the battery in my cartridge died since I last played this game in 2015, so the save function no longer works. That means I had to complete this entire game in a single session.

In this first part I completed the Rice Beach area and unlocked hidden Course No. 6. The treasure in this area is not available until after you defeat the area boss. Once you beat him, Course No. 3 becomes flooded and you can reach the item.

Treasure collected:

Treasure A: Course No. 3 - 18:17

Recorded with the Hauppauge HD PVR and the GameCube's component cables at 60 frames per second. I'm using an original model Game Boy Advance as a controller via a GameCube/Game Boy Advance Link Cable.
