Mudslide leaves 19 dead, 50 missing in northeast India

At least 19 people dead and at least 50 missing.

Soldiers joined more than 200 workers and police using #bulldozers and other equipment to rescue those buried under the #debris in Noney, a town near Imphal, the capital of Manipur state.

Seven of the confirmed dead were members of the #territorialarmy , state chief minister N. Biren Singh said.

He said five #indianrailways officials were among those feared missing.

Continuous rainfall over the past three weeks has wreaked #havoc across India's northeast and in neighboring #Bangladesh.

Around 200 people have been killed in #heavyrains and #mudslides in India's northeast in recent weeks, while 42 people have died in Bangladesh.
