Drone photos show a large gorse fire at a stunning blue flag beach - amid record-breaking temperatures.

Surfer Rou Chater, 46, was out on the water when he spotted smoke billowing from the hill above Newgale beach in Pembrokeshire, Wales.

Firefighters closed the road to tackle the flames which were "totally out of control".

Some 40,000sqm of grass was engulfed by the blaze last night (18) and one in the same spot a day earlier (17).

Rou's dramatic pictures show the large plumes of dark grey smoke billowing up towards the sky, surrounded by scorched earth.

Rou from Hook, Pembrokeshire, said: "The fire service arrived and closed the road and worked on the fire but it was totally out of control."

By the end of the day all ground towards the campsite and surrounding a small holiday home had burned, he said.

Rou added: “All the grass has died and it’s just waiting for any chance to burn.

“In the end the fire burned itself out, but it was the biggest one the area has seen for some time. Two fires in two days is very unusual too."
