Type 96 15 cm howitzer - 九六式十五糎榴弾砲 - Walkaround - Yushukan Museum.

Originally up-loaded on 8 March 2020.

The type 96 was intended to replace the Type 4 150 mm howitzer,
and took almost 2 decades, and was eventually ready in 1934,
but War Minister general Ugaki found it to be lacking and productions was halted until 1937.

The 96 proved to be a extremely modern, well designed and effective weapon, it had great elevation capability of 65 degrees, with a maximum range of 12,000 yards and could be vastly moved in a single load by a tractor or six horses.

Even due the production number of the 96 were considerably high, it would never completely replace the Type 4 howitzer and the production was stopped in 1945, with 440 built, it would still see use in the Korean war and even the Vietnam war until 1975.
