Opening remarks were held Monday in the penalty phase of the trial of Nikolas Cruz who pleaded guilty to 17 counts of murder and 16 counts of attempted murder in the Parkland High School shooting of 2018 in Florida. Prosecutors painted Cruz as "cold, calculatng and deadly."
