Hi, I'm Phil Bridges, owner of Straight Arrow Repair. Ever want to know how a repairman fixes things? Well come with me, and I'll show you how I solve problems. Let's make things better together.

We tore down a wall and the wiring has got to be figured out. This actually is hot, I just plugged in a tester which is one of the most comprehensive tools that you can have. Particularly as an individual who doesn't have a lot of experience.

It tells you a lot of different things that if you plug in you'll be able to figure out. So, that's a little thing that you can get at Harbor Freight for like 5 or $6. So we know this is hot. If you've never seen the backside of these or the inside of these I'm going to take you on that journey. This is something they make from the factory. This has been painted and sprayed textured on, but it on the backside of it has the way you just like a regular cutting box which we have an example of the cut in box right there.

It does the same thing. It just doesn't have a box. The weakness of this type of plug slash, switch. Plug or switch is inside. So we're going to go inside of a live outlet. It has two clips on each side. And I'm going to pull it off. Okay. And the way these things work, now mind you, this is hot, is they just push them in those prongs right there.

And when you wiggle these around a little bit, those prongs get a bad. They get bent their shape like a slot and the wires and just push them there. And that's how you get your outlet in this case or switch in another. I'll probably take you on a journey, show you what it looks like inside of here. But this is usually have to replace it with a box like that, like somebody did on that one right there.

And then you have a little box to make and then connection wise, these are not very good and they don't last. They usually can cause you a lot of grief to figure out where you're not getting power from an outlet to another outlet. So this is me showing you what you have to deal with right now. I'm going to try to find the power and turn it off so I can do it live, I don't want to. All right bye.
