Meet Stavros Anthony
For County Commission District C

The year 1980 was significant in the life of Stavros Anthony.

Stavros moved to Southern Nevada and became an officer for the Metropolitan Police Department. He and Bernadette would be married one year later, staking their family’s future in the valley.

Little did he know that this was the beginning of a 40-year commitment that would touch and make a difference in the lives of many people in Clark County.
FAMILY MAN

To find the inspiration for Stavros’ drive to make a difference, look no further than the most important people in his life: Bernadette, his wife of 38 years, his two daughters, and two grandchildren, Stavros does for the community as he does for his own family. His most important goal is to work to provide a quality of life that includes safe and secure neighborhoods, good schools, recreational opportunities, jobs, and peace of mind that there are people that are committed to making our community a better place to live.
METRO OFFICER AND LAW ENFORCEMENT

Stavros's career with Metro spanned 30 years, during which time he worked the streets as a patrolman until eventually attaining the rank of Captain in 1999. As captain, Stavros oversaw operations in a variety of departments, including Professional Standards, Personnel, Vice/Narcotics, Northeast Area Command, Transportation Safety Bureau, and, most recently, Financial and Property Crimes Bureau.

Stavros was recognized for his work, including an Exemplary Service Award in 2006.
THE VALUE OF EDUCATION

In his personal and professional life, Stavros understood that the key to success lay in education.

He graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from Detroit’s Wayne State University in 1980. In 1987, he graduated from UNLV with a Master of Arts in Political Science, and in 1999, received his Ph.D. in Sociology from UNLV.
EDUCATOR

Stavros’ commitment to education, coupled with his leadership abilities, made him a natural to make the move into the classroom. For over two decades, Stavros was a teacher and mentor for hundreds of students.

With Metro, Stavros taught many courses in law enforcement. He was the in-service training sergeant and as a lieutenant, was in charge of the Metro Academy.

Stavros was also adjunct faculty at both College of Southern Nevada and UNLV, a post he held for 20 years. During that time, he taught various criminal justice courses as well as an introduction to the American government.

In 2002, he was recognized with an Award of Excellence from CSN.
BOARD OF REGENT

Stavros entered the world of elected public service in 2002 when he won a seat as a Regent with the Nevada System of Higher Education. He won a second term in 2006. Stavros was selected as Chairman of the Board of Regents and led the way in developing a master plan for the university system which included system goals and a value statement.
LAS VEGAS CITY COUNCILMAN

In June of 2009, Stavros was elected by the people of Ward 4 to be their next city councilman. He has since won re-election in 2013 and 2017.

With a focus on the quality of life issues, Stavros has guided Ward 4 through tremendous growth. His emphasis on safe neighborhoods, new business development, providing emergency services, and infrastructure needs like roads, parks, and traffic safety has enabled Ward 4 to meet the challenges of the past decade and prepare for the future.
