Turdus migratorius is the scientific name for the American robin.

The genuine thrush genus and Turdidae, the larger thrush family, include the migratory songbird known as the American robin. Although the two species are not closely related and the European robin is a member of the Old World flycatcher family, it was named after the European robin because of its reddish-orange breast.
