Episode 18 - The Sign Post - Cutting the Timber - Part 2

Cutting out my Timber Frame Mailbox Sign Post did not go as planned and I was not able to complete it.
First I didn't erase all the extra pencil lines I had drawn and my very first cut was on the wrong line.
Second I thought my bean was my post and I used my drill to help clean out some wood before I realized that this was the beam.
Third my chisels were not sharp enough and I ended up tearing the wood out of where the brace is supposed to be so I called it a day!
All is not lost though. The drill holes didn't take too much material out but it did weaken the joint.
My first cut will be kinda hidden as it will be into the shoulder of the post.
I also ordered some sharpening stones that will hopefully be here soon and I still have the mailbox post to keep working on and this is practice!
I would rather ruin these 4x4's instead of a much larger 8x8's!
After I get this project down I will take out my practice timbers from a previous video and practice more timber frame joints.
I can't wait to start my Online Timber Frame course on Monday from The Shelter Institute (@shelterbuild).
Thanks for watching!
