Installing Deer watering holes (and for other wildlife) Illinois land management

Join us for some wildlife conservation and wildlife habitat improvements as we take you through the entire process of installing a 140 gal artificial deer & wildlife watering hole. We on on a Southern Illinois farm and this is just one of many wildlife habitat improvement projects and conservation projects that we practice on our farm and as is in this case on our friends properties as well. I'll be using the Bobcat e42 mini excavator to make the digging much easier on us 2 old guys, lol. But certainly can be done with just a shovel. If you were to do it that way you might just get a smaller water tub. I'm pretty sure the tubs we installed were 140 gallons. These are the heavy duty domestic animal tubs so they are very durable. We picked the locations by design to maximize the effectiveness of keeping the watering holes full. We installed them in already existing rain water erosion cuts, so that they should be fully recharged with most any rain. We also graded down a couple of ramps so that wildlife can access them easily even though they are buried fairly deep.
