Hundreds more people were evacuated on Friday as wildfires continued to spread in southwestern France, with the flames growing by about 2,000 hectares overnight.

One of the two fires in Gironde was around the town of Landiras, south of Bordeaux, where approximately 4,200 hectares have burned. The other has burned about 3,100 hectares along the Atlantic Coast close to the "Dune du Pilat," the tallest sand dune in Europe.

French President Emmanuel Macron, during a visit to an wildfire crisis centre, said they were experiencing a "one-of-a-kind season in terms of intensity."
