Illusion of Gaia (Snes) Gameplay Sample

I'm playing this via the Retron 5.

This is also known as Illusion of Time in the PAL Regions

I've had this game for over two decades, and it's a very well made action-RPG. In it's day, it was certainly an overlooked game. I'm pretty sure we picked it up used, and for cheap at Premier Video, our local rental store.

Though, the storyline takes a bit of a weird turn near the end, I've always enjoyed my time playing through this game. The gameplay mechanics are similar, yet fresh. The music is fantastic, and the graphics have all that 16-bit charm that the best Snes RPGs have. 16-bit RPGs/Action-RPGs are my favorite era of RPGs, and Illusion of Gaia, Final Fantasy, Chrono Trigger, and etc are the reasons why.

Something about that 2D charm of early RPGs, or I guess, JRPGs is the newer term (back in the day, when you said RPG, the majority assumption was something like Final Fantasy), just hits better then even later 32-Bit RPGs. 2D sprites feel more organic and natural than the later prerendered backgrounds that were the rage in most PS1 RPGs that came later.

If you like action-rpgs, give this one a look. If you want to rom, it, rom it, but doing a quick Ebay search, cart only is only around $40 which for a Snes RPG isn't too bad. This one is affordable by comparison.

This game was developed by Quintet, who were also responsible for Actraiser, Soul Blazer, and Terranigma.
