Virtua Fighter 5 (PS3) Gameplay Sample

I feel terrible about the fact that, even though I was adamant about picking this game up early on when I first got my PS3, this is actually the most time I have, sadly, spent with VF5.

Virtua Fighter 4, is Hands down, my favorite PS2 fighting game. I was so excited for it to release on the PS2 that I picked it up very shortly after the game hit, and man, I wasn't disappointed. I put so many hours into VF4 it's insane. It didn't have any flashy modes, but the Kumite mode had me hooked. When I first got it, I played it against my friends, but they quickly gave up on it, because, well, they sucked at it. LoL.

When Evolution hit, I deeply wanted to get it, but I didn't pick it up till over a decade later, and I have still yet to play it much. Somewhere along the way, I got sidetracked, and I genuinely just stopped playing fighting games altogether. Tekken Tag was the last Tekken I would put a significant amount of time into (Rented Tekken 4, and have played Tekken 5 or 6), and Virtua Fighter 4 was the last Virtua Fighter I put a significant amount of time into either(I played the crap out of VF2 on the Saturn as well). I just kind of lost interest in the entire genre, and I'm not sure why. It's not like there haven't been some fantastic offerings since that time, I just kind of moved on, even though I once played 3D, and 2D fighters to death.

I apologize for being so rusty in this footage, I had forgotten a lot of combos, and forgot the blocking, ducking timing thing that makes this series so deep as well.

I kind of remembered why I may have stopped playing, at least against A.I. opponents, specifically in the Arcade mode: It turns out that Fighting Games are not good for my blood pressure. Human vs human is one thing, but when the A.I. cheats by knowing what you are going to press, just to block/counter/combo, I tend to get extra annoyed. LOL. I know, that's my hang up, but I think I just got tired of it over the years.

All that being said, this is still an amazing game, and the VF series is still an amazing series, even if it has fallen from mainstream recognition since VF4.

I truly wish Sega would pull their heads out of their posteriors, and give us a new Fighter's Megamix game and make it Virtua Fighter Vs Tekken which is what true fans really want to see. I have still yet to get around to playing Tekken X Street Fighter, but "I want to see Tekken vs Street Fighter." Said no one ever, and yet it exists. Come on, FIghter's Megamix 2, Sega vs Namco, who's with me?
