Socom U.S. Navy Seals (PS2) Gameplay Sample

I miss playing this game online, but I also miss oldschool "Tactical Shooters." The kind of sub-genre that old Rainbow Six and Ghost Recon used to be. Now, with the "Modern Shooter" the market has no place for more tactical offerings, but man, go back and play some of them like Socom, Operation Flashpoint, and the Ghost Recon series. I still love their intensity.

I know you can tunnel this game to play it online still, but even without the online, this is a great showing for the Tactical Shooter sub-genre. Faster paced, more arcadey in nature than R6, and GR, but tactical enough to keep you weary of charging in (Just pepper every square inch with grenades, that's what I do), Socom, though scoffed at by "PC Gamers" (They don't like anything consoles anyway), is worthy of being mentioned along side the other greats in the genre, despite what PC snobs have to say about it.

This is also in the handful of PS2 games that support progressive scan. I spent so many hours with this game online (Think CS, but slower, more deliberate pacing), and I miss the good times I had playing it with my friends. This was my introduction to online gaming, as I didn't have or own a PC at the time. Fantastic game, and a fantastic series,,,,on the PS2 and PSP. I liked Confrontation, but since the servers are no longer online, the entire game is a coaster now, and Socom 4, from what I have played of the single player, is meh. I never got to play it online.
