Ghost Recon: Jungle Storm (PS2) Gameplay Sample

Hands down, this is the best Ghost Recon game on the 2. While I haven't played the original on the 2, I do know that it was scaled way back even when compared to the Gamecube, and especially the Xbox version. However, Jungle Storm fixes some of the lazy porting issues of the original. I have always said that Ubisoft's 2 ports were sloppy, and half-fast (Don't say that too fast). However, Jungle Storm is not only worlds better than Ghost Recon 2, and GRAW on the 2, but it's a really intense, and well made tactical shooter in it's own right.

One of my most watched and commented on videos if my footage of Ghost Recon 2, but the 2 version of GR2 is kind of trash. I haven't played the Xbox version which I hear is better, and a different game altogether.

Ghost Recon and it's two expansions on the PC (Island Thunder, Desert Siege) was one of the first PC games I bought when I finally got my own PC back in the day (500mhz Pentuim 3, with a Radeon 9000, 512 mb ram), and Jungle storm Brings the missions from Island Thunder, and combines them with the new Jungle storm missions for a combined 16 missions. The game plays smoothly, but not perfect, and it can get darn right intense in the missions. One-shot-one-death creates a lot of careful playing and ads intensity to the game. By comparison to games like Socom, this game definitely has a much slower pace, but if you can get into it, the game has a satisfying intensity, and I love that completing missions allows your characters to earn RPG style stat points should they live.

There used to be an online mode for the game, but I think I only played it online once. Again, as I said about half-fast Ubisoft ports, the dumbest decision in the online mode was to lock the game in 8-player matches, but allowing 12-player matches if the person hosting the server put in a cheat code to allow it. A cheat code was also required to allow voice chat in the online matches as well. Kinda dumb.

Overall though, I love this game. Not perfect, and it does have it's flaws, but still a great example of old "Tactical Shooters." This also allows for voice chat to give computer controlled A.I. teammates commands. In fact, post-Socom, this was the trend of the day in all tactical/modern F games. Socom, Ghost Recon, Rainbox Six, and even Black Hawk down on the 2 support USB mics for voice commands
