Ape Escape 2 (PS2) Gameplay

The original Ape Escape was one of the most popular platformers of it's generation. It's popularity might take a backseat to Crash, Spyro, Mario, Banjo and Etc, however, it's still immensely popular, and I can attest to this fact because a simple gameplay sample I uploaded of the original game is monthly, one of the most viewed videos on my channel according to analytics. It gets as many or more views as Doom (1), Donkey Kong 64, C&C Red Alert: Retaliation, and Powerstone.

This is the furthest I have played into Ape Escape 2, and it's more of the same, but that's a great thing in my opinion, as I loved the original game, and this game has the same addictive formula as the original, just with next gen graphics and additions.

The Ape Escape franchise was popular on the 1, but nearly completely overlooked by mainstream gamers (at least in the west) on the 2 (even with Snake vs Monkey missions in MGS3), but I think that's because platformers evolved immensely in the 6th generation. Ape Escae had to compete with Jak, Ratchet, Sly, and so many more big-named games in the genre that it kinda fell by the wayside in mainstream gaming. Jak and Ratchet would get magazine covers, ape escape would get a half to quarter-page review at best.

That being said, from what I have played, this game doesn't reinvent the wheel on Ape Escape's gameplay, but it is still just as fun as it ever was to explore levels, catch monkeys, and use some cool gadgets with unique analog controls. If you loved the original Ape Escape, look into the 2 sequels.
