Welcome to the Gardening In Canada where be look at all things specific to Canadian Gardner’s & cold climate Gardner’s! In this how to divide perennials in spring videos we review some of the basics. We start with Identifying the mains types of perennials typically found in cold climates: clumping perennials, Creeping Perennials, woody perennials, Bulb perennials, Tuber perennials.

From there we go through how to identify what type of perennial you have and how that effects the process of dividing the perennials in the spring. Canadian gardens have the benefit of a dormancy period meaning we have the opportunity to lessen the amount of “shock” the plant experiences after transplant.

If your itching to get into the garden this spring then dividing your perennials is a great place to start! Rather then plant you flowers and plants early and have to work about frost get out there and start dividing.
