Man acquitted in Air India blast dead in apparent targeted shooting

Breaking news out of Surrey, B.C. – one of the two men to face trial for murder in connection with Canada’s largest mass killing before being acquitted – has been killed in what appears to be a targeted shooting. According to his family, Ripudaman Singh Malik was gunned down at a busy commercial complex. Minutes later, a burning car was found just a few blocks away. In 2000, Malik and Ajaib Singh Bagri were charged with 329 counts of first-degree murder for those aboard Air India Flight 182. The flight was brought down by a bomb on June 23, 1985, off the coast of Lockerbie, Scotland. Malik and Bagri were acquitted in 2005. Paul Johnson has more.
Shots of Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine will soon be given to the youngest Canadians. Health Canada has now approved the vaccine for babies as young as six months old and children up to the age of five. That means nearly two million children will now be eligible for vaccinations. Jamie Maraucher has more.
Random COVID-19 testing for air travelers is making a comeback in this country. Starting Tuesday, those arriving at the airports in Montreal, Vancouver, Calgary and Toronto may once again be selected to be tested. Hockey Canada is reopening a third-party investigation into allegations of sexual assault by members of the 2018 World Juniors hockey team. A number of prominent corporate sponsors dropped Hockey Canada for quietly settling a lawsuit brought by the woman who says she was assaulted by eight players. Her allegations were never tested in court but as Abigail Bimman reports the settlement triggered outrage and some feel more needs to be done by the organization.
Russian missiles struck the Ukrainian city of Vinnytsia behind the frontlines on Thursday in an attack that Ukrainian officials said is one of the deadliest single-day attacks. The missiles reportedly were fired from a Russian submarine in the Black Sea. As Crystal Goomansingh reports, the office buildings and residential areas hit in Vinnytsia are nowhere near the front lines in Ukraine's Donbas region.
Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi resigned today, a move that was not accepted by the country's president. As Mike Drolet reports, the president has asked Draghi to try and find common ground with the government coalition partners.
