In 1928, Karl Jansky, a telecom engineer in New Jersey, was working on his antenna when he discovered some strange interference. This odd signal, in contrast to other sources that were interfering with telephone connections, was originating from an unidentified source. He had no idea where it came from, but after months of research, he discovered its source in 1931.The source lay in the direction of the constellation Sagittarius in the center of the Milky Way galaxy.
