RCA patch cables are commonly associated with interconnects for audio devices, but they have been used for much more over the years. RCA plugs (also called phono plugs) have been around since the 1940s, and are still commonly used today for many applications including line level analog audio, loudspeaker connectors, power connectors, RF connectors, and S/PDIF digital audio connectors. While untangling my cords and cables, I discusses uses for this plug, and discuss various types of patch cables and adapter cables that use this type of connection.

In addition to standard RCA patch cables, I also look at adapters that have RCA jacks including the piggyback variety, 3.5mm Mini Plug adapters in the TS, TRS, and TRRS variety, and even a couple of other adapters including some with 1/4" plugs and 2.5mm plugs.

I include a brief history of the RCA connector and discuss the usage of EMI suppressors that are useful when experiencing electromagnetic interference.
