Thailand finds 81 cases of Omicron virus strain

Song Sa, director of the Medical Department of the Ministry of Health of Thailand, revealed on the 23rd that 81 cases of new subtypes BA.4 and BA.5 of the Omicron virus strain have been found in Thailand. Much of the spike protein is mutated and binds more readily to human lung cells, much like the delta strain. BA.4 and BA.5 are more contagious, prone to lung infections, and have severe symptoms.
Thai Prime Minister’s Office Spokesperson Thanakang said: Since the emergence of new subtypes BA.4 and BA.5 of the Omicron virus strain in many European countries, Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-o-cha has asked the health department to pay close attention to the European epidemic and strengthen the prevention and control of tourism from Europe.
