The REWARD for good culture, is, the orchids grow & mature! THAT is what we want, BUT, can we trust that the current METHOD we apply, will be good enough for the orchids as they grow bigger? In my opinion, IT DEPENDS! In this video, I move my 2 Aerangis into a more water retentive grow method, Using leca and seramis. It is my assumption, that they will require more humidity around their roots in the coming years, because they are getting bigger. My current growing method was an inorganic mount, with sphagnum moss, which I changed 2x / year. This worked well for 2 years, and both orchids bloomed. But I have noticed, that the roots stop growing because my environment is not humid enough in the hot summer months. I have 8 months / year to consider hot and 'dry'. Aerangis roots are not known to extend once the tips have stopped growing... I have them located above humidity trays, but this year, the roots stopped growing sooner than in previous years, so... I have to change something! I hope that you enjoy watching the video and my thought process behind why I am doing what I am doing! Thank you so much for taking the time to watch this video, despite being somewhat long. I thought it important, as a first video dealing with Aerangis species, to show / tell the entire process! Any questions? Please let me know in the comments below!
