Pals revealed how they saved £200 by sneaking alcohol into a festival - by SYRINGING a litre of pink gin into a cranberry juice carton.

Sophie Taylor, 20, and her friends didn't want to shell out £8.50 for a double pink gin and lemonade at Kubix Festival in Sunderland last Saturday [9].

After already spending £32.77 each for their festival tickets, the group of women came up with a plan.

Purchasing two giant 50ml syringes from Amazon for just £5.99, the girls poked a hole in the side of a cranberry juice carton and carefully emptied the contents.

Filling the syringes with Gordon's pink gin, they transferred the alcohol into the empty cranberry juice carton.

The hole was then carefully glued shut, with the flap of cardboard at the top of the carton covering up the evidence of any interference.

Sophie and her friends Becca Merrit, 24, and Katie Hobson, 25, waltzed past security with their disguised alcohol in plain sight in their tote bag.

All they had to purchase inside the festival was lemonade as a mixer, and Sophie thinks they saved around £200.

Support worker Sophie, from St Helen Auckland, County Durham, said: "I’d seen someone put vodka in a water bottle and seal it back up but I’m not a huge fan of vodka so I thought I'd do it with pink gin.

"Then I thought that pink gin doesn't really look similar to anything, so that gave me the idea of the cranberry juice as it was a covered carton.

"The carton fit a full one litre bottle of pink gin in so that would last us all day as we were there from 12pm to 11pm.

"The person who used the vodka in the water bottle had put it in with a syringe and used a glue gun to cover it up so we got the syringes and did the same with the carton.

"We were very nervous, to be honest! We didn’t think we would get away with it, but the lengths we went to just to make sure it was still sealed and you couldn’t tell we had tampered it, now when I look back, I’m not that surprised we got away with it.

"When we first got through the checking point, the security pulled us to the side to check our bags and our picnic basket.

"The gin was in a bag with a blanket next to it so after the security had finished checking the picnic basket, they glanced in the bag with the gin but saw the carton was sealed and thought nothing of it, and let us go in.

"I’d definitely do it again! All we had to do was buy the lemonade from the bar in there but it saved us around £200 in drinks.

"It was definitely worth it and I’m so happy with how it turned out."
