Facebook user Reylen Lopez expressed frustration after his folded polymer bill was not accepted as payment in a popular mall, all because it was folded.

Lopez wrote, “Don't save the new 1k! It is forbidden to fold or fold as per SM Management, ”she said. “I would have paid for it, they didn't accept. It is forbidden to fold. We are not informed. Am I the only one who doesn't know? Haisst,".

The Central Bank of the Philippines has earlier reminded the public to be careful with the new version of the P1,000 made of polymer material.

According to the BSP, THE FOLLOWING ARE PROHIBITED:

•Do not excessively fold, crease or crumple. That could leave permanent fold marks.

•Do not deface, write on or mark the banknotes.

•Do not tear, cut or poke holes.

•Do not staple or use rubber bands to keep them together.

•Do not damage the clear windows, metallic features and other security features.

•Do not expose to very high temperature or place near an pen flame.

•Do not Iron.

•Do not expose to strong or toxic chemicals, such as muriatic acid or bleach.

You’ll need a long wallet and not a coin purse.
Anyone who violates this can be fined, and the fined is up to 20,000 pesos and can be imprisoned.

Meanwhile, SM Supermalls issues statement and clarified the new P 1,000 bill (polymer banknote) folded will still be accepted. Only those that are mutilated, stapled and ripped caused by removal of staple wire will be deemed unfit and not accepted.
