HAYWARD, Calif., — The Hayward Police Department are actively investigating an officer involved shooting that happened on May 27, 2020 and released body camera (2), cell phone footage and radio communication and a briefing on this Critical Incident.

Wednesday , at about 12:44 PM officers responded to a call for service of a suspicious person in the area of Bahama Avenue and Sleepy Hollow Avenue. Community members called to report that a man on a motorcycle was chasing someone and banging on doors in the neighborhood.

Our officers located the involved man. During the contact, an officer discharged his service weapon after the man approached officers with a weapon. At this point, we are still investigating to determine what else led to that outcome.

The man, in his 60’s, was transported to the hospital.

"We are not releasing any identifying information of the officer. This remains an ongoing investigation as witnesses and officer testimony is gathered and analyzed." Police said.

"Anytime the Hayward Police Officers use force, regardless of degree, it is a serious matter that requires a thorough investigation. In addition to an internal investigation, that Alameda County District Attorney’s Office has been notified and will conduct an independent investigation." Police said.
