2 John 1:10-13 Be careful who you let in and wish well

Since the boys have been big enough to reach the lock and door handle on the front door, we have had to instill in them that they can’t just open the door for anyone who knocks. We tell them that we must be careful who we open the door for and who we let in our house and to never open the door unless they are certain who is on the other side of it. This goes for our home in the natural, but it also applies in the spiritual as well. We shouldn’t just let anyone have influence over what comes in our lives and we should be very certain of who we are opening doors for. John tells the recipient of this letter that she should not welcome those into her home who come preaching a doctrine other than what the apostles had delivered. He goes on to say that she should not only not welcome them in but to not even socialize with them because to do so would make you a partaker of their evil deeds.

As parents we are very particular with whom we allow to have influence over our children because we know and understand how easily a negative influence can damage them spiritually. This is equally important in our lives as well; we make sure that we guard our hearts and a very specific about who we allow to have spiritual influence over us. We can’t just open the door for everyone who comes knocking because many times it is just, he enemy trying to get a strong hold in your life. This is why it is crucial that we read and study the word of God for our self and have strong biblical foundations that prevent us from being misled or deceived by the enemy. 2 Corinthians 11:13-14 says that we should be on the watch for those seeking to deceive us as it says that Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. WE must be certain who we give access to because the one knocking on the door may seem to be on your side but are really working on behalf of the enemy.
