Right Start Math // Tips For Drawing Lessons

In this video I use Right Start Math Level C Lesson #66 to help demonstrate some key reminders that help students successfully hold and position their own tools.
1) Drop their t-square down about an inch below their starting point. This provides more surface area for their hands to hold the tool steady.
2) Practice sliding the 30-60 triangle (the "train") along the t-square (the "track") without moving the t-square (no drawing, just get comfortable sliding it back and forth.)

If their drawings are not coming out "even" or "level" check that they started from a valid starting point. A starting point can only be:
1) the end point of a given line
2) a vertex of a given shape
3) a vertex made by two drawn lines coming together, both of which themselves were made off of a valid starting point
4) the intersection of a tick mark with a line - but remind them you must start from where the tick mark CROSSES the given line. Not the end of the tick mark! :)
