Monkey is a common name. Many animals in the order Primates we call monkeys. The order Primates is one of the orders of mammals. It is the highest group in the animal kingdom, with a well-developed brain; orbits facing forward, with narrow orbital spacing; and separate toes (fingers) on the hands and feet, with the thumbs being flexible and mostly able to grip with the other toes (fingers). It includes the suborder Protoceratops and the suborder Sarcopithecus. The suborder Protoma has a fox-like face; no cheek capsule and hip callus; forelimbs are shorter than hindlimbs, thumbs and big toes are well-developed and can be held opposite other fingers (toes); tail can be curled or missing. The suborder Ape has a human-like face; most of them have cheek pouches and hip calluses; most of the forelimbs are longer than the hindlimbs, and some of the big toes are degenerated; the tail is long, some can be curled, and some have no tail. According to the regional distribution or nostril structure, the suborder of apes and monkeys is divided into the broad-nosed monkey group, also known as the New World monkeys, and the narrow-nosed monkey group, also known as the Old World monkeys. This order includes 11 families and about 51 genera and 180 species, which are mainly distributed in warm areas of Asia, Africa and America. Most of them inhabit forest areas. The largest primate is the gorilla, weighing up to 275 kg, and the smallest is the bonobo, weighing only 70 grams.
