I’ve resurrected my acoustic version of this favorite Alicia Keys song from 2016. The lyrics sound like she wrote it today, in the thick of Black Lives Matter protests following the senseless murder of George Floyd. The song is an eloquent acknowledgement of our nation's desperate need for racial equality and tolerance. [Turn on Closed Captions to see the lyrics.]
This performance and recording was truly spontaneous. I recorded each part in a single take while testing a new audio interface — an Apollo Twin Mark II Duo from Universal Audio.
It features Lead Vocals through an inexpensive Blue Yeti Pro mic, a Heritage H-575 (1991) hollowbody for electric rhythm and lead, a Gibson J-50 (1964) acoustic guitar, a Fender P-Bass (1957), and a Martin Backpacker (in Nashville High-Strung Tuning) for some high-end sparkle.
