China condemns U.S. for providing arms to Ukraine rather than humanitarian aid

China has slammed the U.S. over a massive weapons aid package for Ukraine, announced on Wednesday, and said Washington should send humanitarian support instead of military aid that will increase the risks of more civilian casualties.

"As for humanitarian aid, China provided Ukraine with food, infant milk powder, sleeping bags, blankets, waterproof mats. As for the US, they handed over lethal weapons to Kiev," he said at a briefing. "Can these weapons restore peace and stability, or will they lead to new victims and injured among the civilian population? Residents of Ukraine need food and sleeping bags more."

As the Chinese spokesperson specified, "sane people" can easily understand that Ukraine does not need arms supplies at all. He also noted that Beijing’s efforts to provide humanitarian assistance to Kiev "triggered broad support from the international community, primarily many developing countries.".
