Calgary Stampede saddles up without pandemic protocols

For the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic began, the Calgary Stampede has kicked off — without any restrictions.

With tourists coming back, the city is hoping the big event is just the beginning of a summer of economic success.

"Our tourism industry has been hit hard by the pandemic, this is a really great opportunity to get back to work," Jeff Hessel of Tourism Calgary said.

But as Heather Yourex-West explains, the 10-day event, billed as the "greatest outdoor show on Earth," is experiencing some pandemic-caused problems.
