G7 refuses Russian demand, Japan to ask firms not to pay for Russian gas in roubles

Energy ministers from the G7 group of nations have rejected demand that Russian natural gas be purchased exclusively in roubles. German Energy Minister Robert Habeck stressed that purchases will be settled in the currency indicated by original contracts.

No free gas supplies for Europe, Kremlin spokesman says. "No payment, no gas," the Kremlin spokesman emphasized.

Japanese companies will be asked to refuse Russia’s demand that energy payments be made in roubles, Chief Cabinet Secretary Hirokazu Matsuno said on Tuesday.
