2 John 1:9 Love God, Love His commandments

Is it possible to love someone but hate everything that they stand for? I mean can someone say they love a politician and once you start talking to them you realize that they disagree with that politician on absolutely every major point. It stands to reason that if you are for someone then you are going to share the same views on key issues. Is it possible to marry someone and feel absolutely the opposite of them on key issues? You want kids and they don’t, your prolife and they are prochoice, your hard-core democrat and they are a stanch republican and you are a Christian, but they are an atheist. This wouldn’t make for a very successful marriage or partnership if you didn’t agree with each other on key issues, it would only cause friction. Therefore, I find it so amazing that many claims to be followers of Jesus Christ yet don’t agree with the doctrine of Christ or His commandments. They say they are a Christian but when you begin to discuss issues with them you see that they don’t stand in agreement with the Word of God on many key issues.

John just lays it out like it is in verse 9 and says that those who don’t adhere to the doctrine are Christ are of God and those that do not aren’t of God. You can’t have God without having the commandments He set forth as a guiding point for your life. They go hand in hand with each other and those who think that they can be in a relationship with Jesus and ignore His doctrine are misled and confused about their faith. God doesn’t change neither does His standards for human behavior, He has always required a standard of behavior that pursues righteousness and He still does today. Our society like to twist and manipulate things to come down in their favor but reality all they are doing is creating an idol (false god) that only exists in their minds. One day they will have stand before the One True God and give an account for their lives, On this day their illusion and deception will be revealed to them if they do not correct the error of their ways before it is too late.
