Repeat offender caught trying to break into vehicles

On Saturday, July 2, 2022, officers responded to a report of a vehicle break-in at 77 12th St NE. Officers at the scene began investigating and learned another vehicle had been broken into the day before. The officers obtained a still photo of a suspect from security video.

The officers searched the area and spotted the suspect, later identified as D’Andre Burkhalter, age 25, and detained him. Detectives responded and the suspect admitted to breaking into multiple vehicles in the area.

Burkhalter, at the time of this arrest, was on probation for previous crimes like this. In 2021 Burkhalter was arrested and placed on probation for breaking into cars. This year, while on probation for those prior offenses, Burkhalter was arrested again for similar crimes and given more probation.

When arrested on July 2 Burkhalter was still on probation for his recent convictions and had just been arrested by APD in June for prowling in a parking garage.
