Donetsk leader Denis Pushilin in Mariupol : The reconstruction process is already in sight

The leader of the Donetsk People’s Republic, Denis Pushilin, on Sunday attended the Easter service at the Church of Archangel Michael in Mariupol, a TASS correspondent reports.

"On the bright holiday of Easter, it was important for me to be side by side with my fellow citizens. The past eight years were a far harder time for them. Shellings are one thing. We’ve got used to shellings over these eight years. But the harm that some tried to do to their souls and minds was really hard to endure. Nevertheless, we can see that the Orthodox faith is strong. We see how many parishioners are here today. True, some risks still remain. You can still hear the thunder of shots being fired. But I would like to express my certainty that victory is near," he told the audience.

The DPR leader said that the situation in Mariupol remained uneasy due to the Ukrainian nationalists entrenched in the Azovstal steel plant.

"We know that they will not last long there for several reasons. As for the rest of the city, the reconstruction process is already in sight. The government ministries and agencies concerned are already estimating the amount of work to be handled in the coming days, weeks and months," Pushilin said.

Hundreds of Mariupol residents gathered for an Easter service at the church on Sunday morning. In the nearby square volunteers were distributing Easter cakes.
