India’s west coast hit with heavy rainfall as monsoon season begins early

The India Meteorological Department warned of heavy rainfall across the country’s west coast on Wednesday, as floodwaters swamped Mumbai streets.

Footage shared on social media showed people and vehicles making their way through flooded streets.

India's annual monsoon covered the entire country on Saturday, six days earlier than usual, the state-run weather office said, but rain totals are 5% below average so far this season.

In India's northern Kullu district in the Himachal Pradesh state, four people went missing after heavy rains triggered flash floods, police said.
