Highland Park parade shooting suspect appears in court, allegedly confesses to deadly attack

The suspected gunman Robert Crimo III made his first court appearance on Wednesday, after confessing to police that he opened fire on the crowd.

Lake County State’s Attorney Eric Rinehart said that “he went into details about what he had done.”

Police say in addition to disturbing online posts, the suspect had an affinity for the numbers seven and four - matching the date of the Fourth of July massacre.

Authorities also believe he came close to staging a second attack, after leaving the scene of the first.
