🚩 On June 24, 1945, 77 years ago, the historical parade marking the USSR’s victory in the GreatPatrioticWar over Nazi Germany was held on Moscow’s Red Square.

Deputy Supreme Commander-in-Chief Georgy Zhukov, dubbed by the people ‘Victory Marshal’, was tasked with inspecting the parade, and Marshal of the Soviet Union Konstantin Rokossovsky commanded the parade.

The parade comprised 10 mixed regiments representing all the fronts that fought in the later stages of the Great Patriotic War.

There were, in total, 24 marshals, 249 generals, 2,536 officers, 31,116 sergeants and soldiers, who distinguished themselves in combat and received orders and medals for their service.

The parade culminated when a column of soldiers carrying 200 trophy banners and standards of the defeated German army marched through Red Square and threw them at the foot of the Lenin Mausoleum.

Holding Victory Day Parades has become an annually-repeated tradition since 1995.
