Rainfall, Cornfall!

(update for my former students: looks like I'm un-retiring from teaching Spanish! Job-sharing this year at AC. Loca, sí, yo sé...) Prayers for rain have been answered! We received an inch and a half in the past 24 hours and they are calling for more rain all day tomorrow. The field corn is no longer all curled up like pineapple leaves.

Weird wind though that came around the corner by our spruce trees and flattened a small patch of field corn next to our yard. A few sweet corn plants next to the peach tree also got knocked over. They should already be pollinated, so hope they will be OK. Of course, that is the same corn that raccoons got into the night before (Stan put out a live trap but the kittens kept getting trapped...curiosity didn't kill them, just startled them a bit!)

I canned 6 quarts of yellow wax beans yesterday. Last year I see I canned 24 qts. and I still have 10 remaining. I'm planning on trying something new this week--canning three bean salad. I used my Instant pot yesterday to cook up kidney beans and then chickpeas so all I have to do is pick the beans. The garden is muddier, but it will be muddier tomorrow. With a heat index of 97 and climbing this afternoon, I think I'll wait a bit...
