Throughout September, the Habibi Bros. are recognizing Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. In this episode, we would like to raise awareness for DIPG and Legislation H.Res.114 that designates May 17th as National DIPG Awareness Day.

DIPG is the most devastating cancer diagnosis in existence and it is the leading cause of brain tumor-related death in children.

Facts about DIPG
* DIPG has a 0 % survival rate with a median survival of just 9 months from the time of diagnosis.
* DIPG affects the pons portion of the brain stem, rendering the nervous system function impossible.
* DIPG is the leading cause of brain tumor-related death in children.
* Astronaut Neil Armstrong's daughter Karen died from DIPG in 1962. She was just 2 years old. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pjNKjDPuxcs)
* Almost nothing has changed in the treatment options or prognosis of this disease in the nearly 60 years since her death.
* Of the ONLY 4% of the federal budget that goes to pediatric cancer, DIPG gets very little compared to other types.

Raising awareness is key to raising support which leads to funding. Designating May 17th as DIPG is the first step towards raising that all-important awareness.
