This is a comparison of the muzzle flash of three .22 handguns. The first is the Kel Tec PMR 30 using 22 WMR Maxi-Mag TMJ.

The second two guns are the Taurus TX 22 semi-auto and S&W Model 317 Air Lite .22 revolver using Federal AutoMatch 40gr solid.

As you can see, the muzzle flash from the PMR 30 is night blindingly impressive. It's great for daylight shooting but at night the first shot lights up the landscape giving away your position and reducing your ability to see until your eyes readjust to the darkness.

Both the TX22 and the Model 317 have a minimal flash signature even out of such short barrels.

Comparing the flash you can see that the .22 LR handguns have a much lower flash signature for low light use.
