Censoring journalism because of...misinformation? Why are we supposed to hate Putin?

With the West blocking Russian news agencies, Russia blocking BBC in retaliation, and the UK introducing legislation that would require social media companies to tackle “disinformation”, what is the West so intent on hiding from us? Why do they want us to focus on hating Putin? Can any of them be considered reliable sources of information anymore?
