Forest to Food Plot, Lime and Fertilizer info, Music #102 Landscaping for Whitetails

What once was a forest will now be a food plot. First loggers clear the land of trees and the land owner gets paid for the trees. Next clearing of stumps, roots and debris, then level the land of holes. We strategically placed the stumps around the border of plot to guide deer in and out. We will then plant switch grass rows to break the plot up even more so deer feel comfortable in the plot. Soil pH is very poor right now 4.9 so we be adding dolomite Lime to this for the next few years to get that number into the 6.5 range. No matter what bulk Lime you use it will take months for the Lime to change the soil pH. The soil also was lacking magnesium and dolomite lime has that in it. Fertilizer requirements are needed for specific seeds your planting. We wanted to get something growing for the summer so we choose conservation soybeans at $30 a bag and buckwheat.
