Cha-kaiseki cuisine incorporates various aspects of traditional Japanese culture and tea ceremony, and is meant to complement Japanese tea.Served before the tea ceremony, cha-kaiseki cuisine is based on light dishes offered as hospitality to guests. The characters for “kaiseki” in “cha-kaiseki” literally translate as “bosom-pocket stone” and are said to originate from the Buddhist monk practice of placing warm stones in the front of their robes to ward off both the cold and hunger.Traditionally, cha-kaiseki includes a menu of one soup and three dishes made with a variety of fresh seasonal ingredients.
