A More Perfect Union

A lyric video I made for the academy award winning song "Falling Slowly" written by Irish singer/songwriter "Glen Hansard" of the band "The Frames", and one half of rock duo "The Swell Season". It is performed here by both Hansard and his co star from the Irish film "Once", the Czech actress and singer/songwriter Markéta Irglová. "Once" was also developed into a hit broadway musical of the same name in 2007.

My inspiration for this video was to re-purpose the song "Falling Slowly", originally written as a romantic number, as a commentary on the United States Of America. The video begins with a long intro, depicting various well known on air altercations and outbursts from various personalities on American television, as the viewer takes on the roll of a channel surfer, moving quickly from station to station. The intro is intended to set the scene for the song, which I used as a way of reflecting on America's struggles and divisions, before ultimately celebrating it's continuing endeavor to become a more perfect union.
