Not only did Lightyear fail to launch at the box office, the narrative around it's failure fell apart this weekend. While there may be plenty of reasons Lightyear couldn't find an audience, first and foremost is no one trusts Disney any longer. Not so with their rival Universal.

Minions absolutely took away the "Family Fear" narrative with it's double up on preview weekend at $10.8M VS Lightyear's $5.2M. It continued to rocket past Lightyear like Top Cruise flying down a broken down car.
